PLN 59 E : Imp Sport

Some photos of PLN 59E which was a 1967 Sunbeam Imp Sport with the Rootes Rally conversion from Les Cookson.

I bought it off a friend of a friend when I get fed up with these 998cc Imps leaving my 998cc Mini Cooper for dead. At the time I was a member of Alex Clacher's racing team, he drove a very quick Imp in the 1000cc Special Saloons in the early 1970's. Eventually it had one of his engine built and fitted by myself. Unfortunately it was stolen in Middlesbrough one Saturday.  The police eventually found it abandoned on a dual carriageway, the head gasket had blown. The insurance company wrote it off and I bought back the salvage but never put it back on the road.
